Membership, Payment, Cancellation and Refund Terms

Accounts and Membership Status

Creating an account does not confer membership or Fellowship. Submitting an application does not confer membership or Fellowship. Approval alone does not activate paid membership.

Membership becomes active only after approval by the Institute and successful payment of the applicable annual fee.

Application Before Payment

No membership payment is taken before approval. Payment is not available to an applicant whose application has not been approved.

• Create an account.
• Submit an application for the grade you are applying for.
• Provide relevant supporting information.
• Complete third party identity verification where this is required.
• The Institute assesses eligibility.
• If the application is approved, payment becomes available in your account.
• Following successful payment, membership is activated.

Annual Fees

There is no separate joining or application fee at launch. Fees may be reviewed from time to time and members will be given notice of a change before it takes effect.

• Student Member: £15 per year.
• Member: £50 per year.
• Associate Fellow: £75 per year.
• Fellow: £100 per year.
• Honorary Fellow: no annual membership fee.

Renewal

Membership runs for one year and renews annually unless cancelled. Renewal payments are collected through our payment provider using the payment method held on your account.

Cancellation

You may cancel your membership at any time from your account. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid membership year, and you retain your grade and benefits until that date. You may also simply choose not to renew.

Refunds

Requests for a refund are considered fairly and on their individual circumstances, subject to applicable law. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory consumer rights.

Courses, Events and Programmes

Separate terms may apply to courses, events and programmes. Investiture, ceremonial regalia, guest attendance and other optional services are separate from annual membership and may carry separate charges. Robe purchase or rental may be charged separately.

Credentials and Standing

The FIILM post-nominal may be used only by current Fellows in good standing.

Membership or Fellowship may be suspended or withdrawn in accordance with the Membership and Professional Standards Framework.
