IILM membership is an international professional community for people who lead and manage. Membership progresses through four grades, Student Member, Member, Associate Fellow and Fellow, supporting you as your experience and responsibility grow.

Honorary Fellowship is a separate recognition route conferred by the Institute. It is not a grade above Fellow and carries no annual membership fee.
Student Member
For those in recognised education, from secondary school (Year 7 in the UK, or the international equivalent) through further education, undergraduate and postgraduate study.

Fees shown are the current annual membership fees at launch. There is no separate joining or application fee. Investiture ceremonies, guest attendance, ceremonial robes and regalia and other optional ceremonial services are separate from annual membership and may carry separate charges.
How to Join the Institute
Applications are assessed before any payment is taken. No membership fee is charged until your application has been approved.

Register for an IILM account. Creating an account does not confer membership.
Step 2
Submit Your Application
Apply for the grade you believe fits your experience and provide relevant supporting information.
Step 3
Assessment by the Institute
The Institute assesses eligibility, and carries out third party identity verification where this is required.
Step 4
Approval and Payment
If your application is approved, your annual fee becomes payable in your member account. Membership is activated once payment is successful.
Developing the Next Generation of Leaders
Student Membership is an early leadership development pathway rather than simply a lower membership rate. It is open from secondary school level through further education, undergraduate and postgraduate study, from Year 7 in the UK or the equivalent secondary school stage internationally. Anyone who remains in recognised full time or part time education may continue as a Student Member at the Student Membership rate.
IILM Young Leaders
Student Members have access to quarterly IILM Young Leaders development sessions, included within membership. Topics may include leadership, communication, emotional intelligence, teamwork, responsible decision making, confidence, goal setting and personal effectiveness.
Activities involving people under 18 are governed by our Safeguarding and Young People Policy.
